Project brief

The project:

The aim of the project is to strengthen the high-voltage power network in East Anglia from Norwich to Tilbury. This reinforcement will involve the construction of:

• A new 400Kv overhead line, connecting Norwich to Bramford.

• Another new 400Kv overhead line, linking Bramford to Tilbury.

• A new 400Kv substation designed to enable the connection of the North Falls and Five Estuaries offshore wind farm projects.

The project is driven by the goal of meeting the UK government’s carbon reduction targets for 2030 and 2050. Furthermore, it plays a crucial role in achieving the government’s ambitious target of 40GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.

Our solution:

TerraQuest‘s primary responsibility was to identify and locate parties with a vested interest in the land along the project‘s route corridor. This was crucial in ensuring that the National Grid maintains accurate and current contact information for these parties, thereby keeping them informed about the scheme‘s progress.

This information played a vital role in the Development Consent Order (DCO) process, as it is an integral component of the Book of Reference.

The outcome:

TerraQuest was well-prepared to offer National Grid a comprehensive and reliable land referencing service and we’re proud to partner with them on this ongoing project. To date, our Land-related data has played a pivotal role in shaping options and informing consultations. The Land & Property Portal has also been greatly utilised by the broader project team to enhance the decision-making process. We look forward to our continued support of the project over the coming years.

Land referencing is the cornerstone of responsible land management and development. Whether you are shaping a sustainable future or seeking clarity on land ownership, land referencing is the key to precision.

Our solution

To ensure we identified land that was appropriate for development, the brief was centred around rail corridors on the eastern side of the borough, our search criteria therefore focussed on areas with easy access to key transport routes including bus, underground and train.

We leveraged our sophisticated computer modelling to swiftly identify areas with development potential, streamlining the process. Moreover, we employed proprietary scoring and development appraisal processes, enabling accurate and rapid identification of individual sites.
